Floodplain Information
The Pentwater Township Board has adopted an ordinance addressing floodplain management provisions pursuant to requirements from the Department of Homeland Security via the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) for the National Flood Insurance Program. Adoption of the ordinance and a companion resolution by the Township enables residents who want or must obtain flood insurance for their property. The Township also entered into an agreement with Oceana County authorizing the County to be the enforcing agency for the management of the State Construction code in regulated flood hazard areas in the Township as defined and identified on the FEMA Flood Boundary and Floodway Map Panels.
Pentwater Township, including the Village, is covered by five (5) Flood Boundary and Floodway Map panels. The panels below may be accessed and viewed by clicking on each of the links listed below. Panel 10C and 15C cover the Lake Michigan shoreline north and south of the channel; Panel 20C covers Pentwater Lake and the south branch of the Pentwater River; Panel 130C covers the Lake Michigan shoreline further south of the channel; and Panel 150C covers the extreme eastern end of the south branch of the Pentwater River within the Township.

Property owners may apply for a Letter of Map Change (LOMC) if they feel that their property was inadvertently included in a flood zone, or if the addition of fill elevated your property/structure so that it is above the flood zone as depicted on one of the foregoing map panels. A LOMC is a letter that reflects an official revision and/or an amendment to an effective Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) that exempts a particular parcel/property from the floodplain area. More definitive information, including questions and answers, as well as an application regarding LOMC's, may be obtained by visiting the website listed below.
